Who is dr. becky martinez?
I am a Class Straddler, Mixed Race Woman of Color, first-generation white-collar professional, organizational development consultant, aunt beck, turtle-paced runner, lover of nature, devoted ice cream enthusiast, rural girl at heart, and mid-aged tattooed dr. martinez.
More on all that later… 😉

Professionally speaking…
educator, author, coach, change catalyst
dr. becky martinez (she/her) is an organization development consultant – equal parts gentle and fierce, bringing both heart and depth to every client engagement for over 20 years.
She approaches her work with a blend of insight and openness that creates space where people feel seen, heard, and challenged in all the right ways. Her knowledge of leadership and systemic dynamics related to social justice along with experience, skills, and tools are accompanied by her down-to-earth approach for connection, learning, and transformation.

becky works from the understanding that systems are created and maintained by people—and because people have the capacity to change, systems can also change.
With that belief, becky intentionally designs spaces that foster critical self-reflection, authentic dialogue, and intentional practice. Her work focuses on making the implicit explicit—helping people and organizations develop the understanding, tools, skills, and courage to engage meaningfully with a sense of purpose and vision centered in humanity.
Before her work as a consultant, Becky was a student affairs administrator at California State University, San Marcos; the University of California, Irvine; and Occidental College.
She currently serves as a faculty member with the Social Justice Training Institute, a Foundation Board Member with the American College Personnel Association, an Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) qualified administrator, and a certified coach in Social and Emotional Intelligence.
As a first-generation white-collar professional, dr. martinez takes great pride in contributing to inclusion focused on social class identity and class(ism), particularly within the context of higher education.

She holds:
Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership – University of La Verne
Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education – Colorado State University
Bachelor of Arts in Biology – University of La Verne
More personally…
I am from tacos, tamales, enchiladas, chips and salsa, mole, homemade pizza, wine cake, and chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven.
I am from the ranch—spaciousness, citrus blossoms, the hum of wind machines at 3 a.m., and the smell of burning diesel to keep the fruit safe. I am from splashing in mud, climbing trees, hawks gliding across the sky, barking dogs, the scent of homemade tortillas, and cool shade under a charming olive tree.
I am from humility, strength, and simplicity—rooted in the messages of work hard, do a good job, family first, if I have money you have money, be whatever you want to be, don’t forget where you came from, and do you want something to eat?
I am rooted from ancestors of the past, family of the present and friends that are my unwavering people – whose care, guidance and laughter support me through this messy, splendid life.
